The Outrigger Reef Fiji
Hawaii this is not. Here’s the difference.
The $US23.3 million 254-room Outrigger Reef Fiji Resort opened on October 1, at Korotogo, on the Coral Coast of Viti Levu, on a site formerly occupied by the Reef Resort. Redeveloped by Australian businessman, Geoff Shaw, the original Reef Hotel’s majority owner, the Outrigger Reef is the first major beach resort hotel to open in Fiji since the 1987 opening of the Sheraton Denarau.
It is patterned after a traditional Fijian village with thatched bures (bungalows) and low-rise buildings with lanais and ocean views. Originally scheduled to open in June, the Outrigger Reef Fiji’s timetable was interrupted by a political coup in May. Says Rob Solomon, senior vice president sales & marketing for Hawaii-based Outrigger Hotels & Resorts: “The additional four months allowed the extensive plantings to really take hold and grow so the landscaping is incredibly lush, truly unprecedented for a newly opened resort.”

Rates at the property start at $F360 per night for a partial ocean view room and up to $F550 for a beachfront bure. The rates include a 10 percent value added tax and are valid until March 31, 2001.
