Before he even completed his studies in Dec 2000, Fui Taotua from Samoa was offered a Job as a Software Tester for IBM. According to Taotua, he saw an IBM booth in the Aloha Center and he decided to give the representative his resume. "I didn't think that I would get a job but I gave them my resume anyway," Taotua said. Returning later, between classes a manager gave him a preliminary interview. "I think that opportunities are disguised as hard work. Sometimes we don't see those opportunities. But BYUH will always give students the opportunities if they work hard," Taotua continued. Taotua also credits his on campus employment with Information Technology Services as key in developing the skills which have helped him succeed.
2000-2001 Student Body President, Saimoni Naivalu, from Fiji, is now in Law school at BYU in Provo. "Because of its size and international composition, I was able to know my professors personally, make friends with students from all over the world and take advantage of the many programs offered" says Naivalu. "With modern facilities, top notch professors and diverse student body, I recommend BYU-Hawaii whole heartedly."

Honolulu, Hawaii
Hawai‘i’s location on the east-west trade route has made it a major international trading center and one of the world’s most preferred tourism destinations. This locational advantage has helped Hawai‘i Pacific University become an exciting learning laboratory where the world comes to learn.
Hawai‘i Pacific University is the largest private university in the state. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. More than 8,800 students from more than 100 countries attend Hawai‘i Pacific, which is recognized as having one of the most diverse student bodies of any American university. Consistently rated as one of the "Best Buys" among American colleges by Barron’s, HPU is also listed by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top regional universities in the west.
Situated at the crossroads of the global marketplace, HPU’s main campus is located in downtown Honolulu. Eight miles away, situated on 135 acres in Kane‘ohe, sits the residential windward campus. The two campuses are linked by shuttle service. HPU also conducts classes on seven military bases throughout the island.
Committed to providing students the best in education and service, HPU offers undergraduate programs in business, liberal arts, science, as well as challenging graduate programs in business, communication, and information systems. HPU is also home to the state’s only marine biology program, the largest MBA program, and a graduate program in nursing with an emphasis in community clinical
nursing.
This fall semester brings new academic programs, such as a Master of Arts degree in Global Leadership, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in economics.
In addition to its more than 50 academic programs, state-of-the-art facilities such as the Media and Technology Center, innovative technologies such as wireless communication, outstanding faculty, and a multicultural student population all add to the University’s appeal. Students benefit from HPU’s unique size, which provides all the features you expect of a large university, yet also the personal attention and small class size of a small, private
college.
Students today seek degrees in a cosmopolitan setting that emphasizes education with a global perspective. HPU prides itself on its cultural diversity. More than 2,000 students make up the Asia/Pacific Island population. Fall 2000 figures show that nearly 60 students from the Pacific Island Community — American Samoa, Fed. States of Micronesia, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Marshall Islands, Republic of Palau — are currently enrolled at HPU.
We have grown to be a major presence and financial partner in the metropolitan area and a major resource on windward Oahu. From a graduating class of just seven students in 1972, there are today thousands of HPU alumni worldwide.
We will continue to provide vision and leadership in education throughout the region. The downtown and windward campuses will experience major improvements. There will be new updated educational resources, and windward campus facilities will grow to accommodate new programs and increased residential enrollment. The success and growth of Hawai‘i Pacific University in the last 36 years present both the framework and the foundation for it to become the center of private higher education in the Pacific region in the 21st century.
