Fortunate timing allowed PacificBasin Communications, the publisher of Pacific Magazine, to host President Leo Falcam of the Federated States of Micronesia to a special dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii. The mid-November gathering was held at Orchids at the historic Halekulani Hotel on Waikiki Beach.
President Falcam was in Honolulu on his way back to Pohnpei. He had traveled to New York City, where he addressed the United Nations General Assembly. The president’s U.N. remarks were timed to mark the FSM’s 10th anniversary of membership in the world body.
The dinner with President Falcam coincided with Pacific Magazine’s December issue, which came off the press late that week. He was presented with early copies of the issue, which featured a special section on the president.
President Falcam, who was with FSM diplomat Carl Apis, spoke about his dealings with world leaders from the Middle East to Asia. He also told stories about his days as a student at the University of Hawaii.
Those attending the dinner for President Falcam included PacificBasin Communications Chairman Duane Kurisu; PacificBasin Communications President Floyd Takeuchi and his wife, Kris Tanahara; Pacific Magazine Sales Manager Leah Ulep; and FSM diplomat Carl Apis.
