Associate Degree programs in Nursing,
Education, Business, Liberal Arts, and Architectural Engineering.
Our Nursing Program provides basic training for students throughout Micronesia, leading to A.S. degree in Nursing and to employment in hospitals, clinics, and educational institutions throughout our region. Graduates of the CMI Nursing Program come from RMI, FSM, Palau, and the Philippines.
The Education Program’s key mission is to provide training for Marshallese teachers for the schools in the RMI. CMI has plans to establish a 4-year Bachelors program in education in the near future.
The Business Program offers A.S. degrees in management, accounting, and computer science. Its mission is to prepare students to fill the need for trained business workers, managers, and leaders in the developing economy of the Marshall Islands.
Students pursuing A.A. degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences receive the foundation for transferring to 4-year American colleges and universities. CMI has current articulation agreements with University of Hawaii, Hilo; Brigham Young University, Hawaii; Chaminade University of Hawaii; Hawaii Pacific University; and University of Guam. Further articulation agreements are currently under negotiation with other American institutions of higher learning.
Remedial instruction to prepare students for college-level work.
CMI’s Developmental Program offers remedial courses to
highschool graduates who require additional skills in English
and mathematics to prepare them for credit-level classes at CMI.
The Enrichment Program focuses on developing English and math skills towards a certificate of completion and tracking toward vocational occupations or advancement into the Developmental level.
CMI offers high school equivalency courses leading to either a GED or RMI High School Equivalency Certificate.
Adult and Continuing Education
CMI offers non-credit community services courses in a wide range of subjects such as business management, business communications, computer training, Marshallese and Japanese language.
Federally-Funded Programs
The Cooperative Research and Extension Program at CMI is funded through the Land Grant. This program offers opportunities for research in agriculture and aquaculture. CMI also offers community outreach programs in the areas of nutrition and family violence under this program.
TRIO Program offers support services and tutoring to students who ultimately plan to go on to 4-year universities. The College Achievement Program (CAP) at CMI prepares our credit-level students for study off-island. The Upward Bound program prepares high-school students for college life. CMI has recently applied for the Talent Search grant that will offer support for students at the elementary school level so that they will ultimately succeed in college.
Financial Aid - Eligible students at CMI may receive funding for their education through several federal programs including Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), and the Federal Work-study Program (FWS).
Vocational Education
CMI is currently preparing for vocational certificate programs in many areas including computer skills, hospitality training, small business management, and accounting. CMI has plans for future vocational training in computers and electronics at our Gugeegue campus to provide Marshallese technicians to support the work of the United States Army Missile Range in Kwajalein. In addition, CMI hopes to finalize a memorandum of understanding with Hawaii Community College in Hilo to utilize its facilities to provide vocational training in automotive mechanics, carpentry, electrical work, welding, etc.
Marshall Islands Science Station (MISS)
This brand new facility near Laura Village on Majuro Atoll houses the Land Grant (Cooperative Research Extension) and our agriculture and aquaculture research programs. In its first year of operation, it has supported aquaculture research on sea cucumbers (beche-de-mer) and cowries, and is piloting hydroponic agriculture techniques for a variety of fruits and vegetables.
Satellite Campus on Kwajalein Atoll
CMI has a fully-staffed satellite campus on Kwajalein Atoll located on Gugeegue Island that in school year 2001-2002 provided services to more than 100 students.
Endowment Trust Fund
In 1996, CMI established an Endowment Trust Fund as a crucial step in planning for the financial stability of the College. Contributions and donations to help build up the Fund to assure financial self-reliance for CMI will be most appreciated.
