Letters to the Editor
Editor:
The purpose of this communication is to repond to an aricle [that] appeared in your May 2002 issue [in which you] conclusively stated that the articles of impeachment against incumbent Chuuk Gov. Ansito Walter was [sic] adopted for trial before the full Senate of the Chuuk State Legislature.
For your information, the House Investigating Committee is still looking for concrete evidence to proof [sic] the 59 allegations against Gov. Walter. The fate of the articles of impeachment has to be decided and approved by [a] two thirds vote of the House before a Senate trial.
We would like to suggest that you refrain from printing premature statement [sic] issued [by] certain members of the opposition group until the evidence are [sic] submitted and a verdict is passed against the governor.

Editor:
I just read Giff Johnson’s article in the Nov. 2001 issue of Pacific Magazine concerning the Islands depending on foreign aid. I was born and raised in Micronesia and, as you had written, we waited for the goods as if it was owed to us or as if it were free like rain falling from the skies. I had not known any better. Many of the islanders still think so, even in this current situation of negotiating more funds from the U.S. Compact of Free Association.
The American government’s main priority, is to look out for its own interest. Let’s not be naive and believe the United States’ main agenda is to help the Islands. I see the Islands as the fingertips of the U.S. government, reaching out to grab control or to hold in place other countries that are possible threats.
I thank for your article.
