PITA Gears Up For Fiji AGM
The Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association, commonly known as PITA, will hold its 7th annual general meeting on April 7-8 April, at the Raffles Tradewinds Hotel, Suva Fiji.
In conjunction with the annual general meeting there will be a two-day trade show beginning April 8.

With 16 new members to be ratified, the annual general meeting will see the election of a new president to lead PITA for the next three years.
Stuart Davies, the current president and CEO of Telecom Cook Islands Ltd, will not seek re-election. He says he “will retire and handover to other executives from the Pacific”.
On the agenda will be PITA workplans and budget discussions, reports and updates from working committees and discussions of PITA affairs and issues.
The administrative session will then be followed by reports from members on the current status of developments and future telecommunications business plans.
Other papers will be presented by invited experts and keynote speakers on telecommunications “business” issues, disaster preparations and responses, market realities, threats and opportunities, investment, costing and users’ issues and perspectives.
A follow-up proposal by FINTEL for an inter-country optic fibre network will also be heard.
Other presentations will be papers from associate members providing updates and new innovative solutions in satellite communications, network and switching solutions.
In other arrangements, a special session to hold discussions on service levels collaborations may be organised for the Pacific Islands carriers and operators.
It is expected that over 100 delegates from the region will attend the annual general meeting.
PITA is a regional telecommunications organisation with members from Micronesia (Saipan, Guam, Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Kiribati & Nauru), Polynesia (Tuvalu, Tokelau, Samoa, American Samoa, French Polynesia, Cook Is, Niue and Tonga), Melanesia (Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Solomons and Papua New Guinea) and Australasia (Australia, Norfolk Island and New Zealand). Associate members are suppliers and vendors of telecommunications from developed countries.
PITA meetings are exclusively for members and invited organisations only.

Meanwhile, PITA, together with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat UNDP and UNESCO, will host a regional consultative meeting on WSIS in preparations for the World Summit.
The meeting will be held on April 8-10 following its annual general meeting, at the Raffles Tradewinds Hotel.
It is expected that representatives from Pacific Islands Governments, NGOs and civil society, Telecom carriers/operators, CROP ICT groups and media from the region will attend this meeting.
