PNG To Prioritize Trade And Economic Diplomacy

Papua New Guinea is embarking on a major policy shift aimed at redirecting strategic missions overseas to focus on trade and economic diplomacy reports The National.


“The foreign policy shift we are embarking on was endorsed by NEC [the National Executive Council],”  Minister Paul Tiensten says, adding that the policy shift was aimed at redirecting all strategic missions overseas to focus on trade and economic diplomacy as opposed to the traditional role of political diplomacy.


Tiensten says Papua New Guinea needs to its competitive advantage in order to harness opportunities in foreign investments and market PNG’s vast potential in trade, investment and tourism to other countries throughout the world.

“We must aggressively pursue our interest in foreign markets in European Union countries, South America, Asia, United States and the Pacific."
