Fiji Businessman Urges End To Beatings

(Radio New Zealand International)

President of the  Fijian Indigenous Business Council, Ulai Taoi, has spoken out after being beaten by soliders in Fiji on Friday, reports Radio New Zealand International.

Taoi says he was taken to the military camp in Suva on Friday and punched, kicked and beaten by soldiers who were questioning him about an anti-military website. He is to lodge an account of the incident with the Fiji Human Rights Commission and the Fiji Crisis centre.

Taoi says he has forgiven his assaulters, but also thinks it is important to speak out in order to bring attention to what is going on and limit such incidents.
