PI Foreign Affairs Cautions Females Seeking Palau Jobs




 
Davao Today has cautioned the public, especially women seeking work in Palau, against unscrupulous recruiters and abusive employers in the Republic of Palau.

The newspaper reported on Tuesday that the Philippine Ambassador to Palau, Ramocito A. Marino, reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that Filipino, a Chinese and Taiwanese women had been convicted and sentenced to jail on trafficking charges, with fines and restitution payments.

The two Filipino traffickers were convicted upon the testimony of seven Filipino waitresses that said they were forced into prostitution. Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs Esteban B. Conejos, Jr. urged Filipinos going abroad to exercise utmost caution in dealing with recruiters and to verify the legitimacy of the recruiter and the job opportuniies with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
