Newly Appointed Supreme Court Justice Marsh Declines Job
A Las Vegas-based lawyer selected for an Associate Justice position on Palau's Supreme Court has declined the position.
Russell Marsh, the Chief of Criminal Division, US Attorney General's Office in Las Vegas, has declined the position according to Chief Justice Arthur Ngiraklsong. Marsh has experience in both Saipan and Yap and is a graduate of Harvard law school.
Ngiraklsong has now advised President Tommy Remengesau Jr. of Marsh's change of mind, and that most of the other candidates on the final shortlist were no longer available. He says a new list will be prepared by the Nominating Committee by the first week of March.
"Because of our experience with Marsh, we will make sure that everyone on that list is not only well credentialed, but able to accept the appointment as well," said the Chief Justice.
Guam judge Katherine A. Maraman will function as an Associate Justice on a part-time basis until a permanent appointment is made.
