Divisions In Samoa’s Ruling Party Over Driving Change

(RNZI)

A group of MPs in Samoa’s ruling Human Rights Protection party has apparently voiced its opposition to the government’s controversial Right Hand Drive policy reports Radio New Zealand International.

There has been widespread opposition to plans to change the side of the road Samoans are to drive on, with protests this week moving to Savai’i.

Local media reports that at last week’s caucus meeting, at least seven HRPP members opposed the bill, and at that meeting the Prime Minister reportedly threatened to step down as party leader.
