Guam Recycling Project Ships 11 Tons Of Metal Cans

(Pacific Daily News)

An private sector island-wide metal can recycling project, whose proceeds benefit Guam's public schools, sent its initial shipment of 11 tons to a recycling center on the U.S. mainland, the Pacific Daily News reports.

The i-Recycle campaign is a project of the Guam Business Partners for Recycling, which is led by Ambros, Inc., a regional distributor that handles Budweiser beer products, Anheuser-Busch International Inc., and Matson Navigation Company.

The group installed recycling containers at 48 schools on Guam. Students and parents are encouraged to place used metal cans in the containers. Schools receive a payment based on how many cans are collected.

The first shipment of 838,000 cans will result in an $18,850 payment to Guam schools, the newspaper reported.
