China May Withdraw Loans For Sports Complex
(Radio New Zealand International)
China may pull out of a deal to fund construction of major sports facilities in the Cook Islands, which were to be used for next year's South Pacific Mini Games, reports Radio New Zealand International.
China's government-owned Import Export Bank is threatening to withdraw from a plan to provide a major soft loan for construction of sports facilities.
RNZI says the bank is concerned that it has not been informed of changes made to the complex by Cook Islands Investment Corporation.
Cook Islands Foreign Minister Wilkie Rasmussen told RNZI that if the Cooks pulls out as host for the games, it would be embarrassing and cause difficulties for the games' organizing committee.
