Meeting Of 'New" Great Council May Be Delayed
(Fiji Live)
The first meeting of Fiji's reconstituted Great Council of Chiefs may not take place next month as planned, the on-line news service Fiji Live reports.
Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo, chairman of the GCC Taskforce, said many new provincial chiefs have not been installed. He said it would take time for those chiefs to be recognized following differing customs and traditions.
“But we cannot guarantee that the GCC meeting will take place next month so we are pleading with those provinces that are left to install their chiefs to speed up the process otherwise they will be left out," Ratu Josateki was quoted as saying.
Chiefs of Rewa, Namosi, Naitasiri, Cakaudrove and Tailevu have opted not to be part of the GCC saying that the move was illegal, Fiji Live reports.
