Rotuma Finally Enters The Internet Age

(Fiji Live)

The tiny island of Rotuma, a Polynesian outlier of Fiji, has entered the modern age with its first internet cafe, the on-line news service Fiji Live reports.

Telecom Fiji yesterday opened the Connect Internet Cafe at the Fiji Post building on Rotuma. It is the first internet cafe on the island.

“This is a very exciting development, because it means that the people of Rotuma now have access to the internet digital super-highway which gives them a wealth of information at their fingertips,” said Telecom Fiji Limited’s Acting CEO Taito Tabaleka.

According to Fiji Live, the Connect Internet Café, which will use a satellite link to provide internet service, currently has two terminals and will open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on week days depending on power availability.
