Bainimarama, Qarase Meet Again In Suva

Fiji interim Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the man he ousted in a December 2006 coup met for the second time yesterday, the on-line news service Fiji Live reports.

Bainimarama and Laisenia Qarase met in Suva at Parliament, along with Catholic church Archbishop Petero Mataca and Methodist Church head Reverend Laisiasa Ratabacaca. The church leaders organized the get together. It is the second time that such a parley has been held with their help.

“The four leaders again reiterated the importance of constructive forward looking dialogue including the efforts that are now aimed at healing and reconciliation at the national level. They urged Fiji’s traditional, community, civic and religious leaders to play and active and a lead role in the reconciliation efforts at the level of local communities and national level,” the group said in a joint statement issued after the 40-minute meeting.

The four men met about a month ago in Suva. But no date has been set for a third meeting, Fiji Live reports.
