Samoa Agrees To Patch Into American Samoa Fiber Optic Cable

Samoa says it will hook up to the fiber optic cable that will be installed between American Samoa and Fiji, Radio New Zealand International reports.

Samoa’s s Minister of Communications recently signed an agreement with the American Samoa Hawaii Cable, which is developing the cable project, RNZI reported.

Apia will pay US$165,000 to hook up to the cable, and pay a monthly lease of US$125,000. Samoa and American Samoa are expected to take advantage of the cable to boost connectivity for voice and data transmissions.

The fiber optic communications cable is expected to be installed in American Samoa in November, the news service says.
