(Pacific Daily News)

Glenn Leon Guerrero has been selected to be the general manager for the Port Authority of Guam, the Pacific Daily News reports.

Leon Guerrero is currently road transport manager for Shell Guam, Inc. He was chosen unanimously by the authority's board of directors from among five candidates. Leon Guerrero said he will be able to step into the new job in early August.

"He brings six years of economic development planning and bond finance experience, which the board felt would be crucial in the months ahead," board Vice Chair Jovyna Lujan said of Leon Guerrero. She also said his 19 years of logistical, operational and managerial experience in the local petroleum industry was a plus.

Guam's only commercial port is considered a key element in the U.S. military's plans to pour some $15 billion into new facilities on the island over the next 10 to 12 years.
