Rota Expecting More Than 20 Japan Charter Flights
(Marianas Variety)
At least 20 charter flights from Japan are expected to fly to the Northern Marianas island of Rota in the coming fiscal year, the Marianas Variety reports.
That compares with the 17 Narita-Rota non-stop charters scheduled for the current fiscal year, which ends in September, the newspaper reported, quoting the Marianas Visitors Bureau.
The Rota charters are a new initiative by the island's municipal government, Japan tour operator Kinki Nippon Tourist and Pacific Development Inc. The rural island, the southernmost in the Northern Marianas chain, has only one major resort and golf course.
The Marianas Visitors Authority estimates that the Rota charters will provide 87,600 seats from Japan.
