U.S. Provides $5.5M To Marshall Islands
The US government provided the Marshall Islands government with $5,588,175 in Compact of Free Association-funded payments during July, according to the US Embassy.
These payments were for Compact Sector Grants, Compact infrastructure projects for the month of July, the fourth quarter Kwajalein landowner payment, the fourth quarter Kwajalein Escrow payment, the Enewetak Food and Agriculture Program, the Four Atoll Health Care Program, and the Compact Advance for Education and Health utility bills.
The breakdown:
• July RMI Education Sector, $1,111,415
• July RMI Health Sector, $542,696
• July Kwajalein Environmental Impact, $17,988
• July Education Sector for Ebeye Special Needs, $147,952
• July Health Sector for Ebeye Special Needs, $130,867
• 4th Quarter Kwajalein Landowners, $1,562,000
• 4th Quarter Kwajalein Escrow, $1,078,453
• Rairok Elementary School, $21,411
• Airport Improvement Project, $32,394
• Rita Elementary School Phase 2, $71,203
• Northern Islands High School Phase 2, $$37,941
• Jaluit High School Phase 2, $36,315
• Enewetak Food and Agriculture Program, $226,000
• Four Atoll Health Care Program, $246,000
• Compact Advance for Education and Health utility bills, $325,540.
Because Kwajalein landowners have not agreed to the terms of Compact II’s extended military use provisions for the missile testing range, the difference in rent between the existing agreement and the new agreement goes into an escrow account that has been building up since 2004. It is now estimated at nearly $20 million.
