Taiwan officials has asked Palau, Indonesia and the Philippines for help locating a missing fishing boat that may have been hijacked by its crew, Taiwan News Online reports.
The fishing boat, the Tai Yi Hsiang, was fishing for tuna near Palau. The boat has a Taiwan captain, Li Feng-pao, and eight Indonesian crewmen. Li would radio his family every afternoon, but they last heard from the captain on August 19.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked maritime authorities in Palau, the Philippines and Indonesia for assistance in finding the fishing boat.
The fishing boat left Liuchiu, Taiwan, on July 19 to fish in Palau waters. Palau is one of six Taiwan diplomatic allies in the Pacific Islands.
