Guam's Registered Voter Rolls Lowest In 14 Years

(Pacific Daily News)

The number of registered voters on Guam has fallen to its lowest level in 14 years, the Pacific Daily News reports.

There will be fewer than 49,000 voters eligible to vote in the territory’s September 6 primary election. That will be 3,700 fewer registered voters than 2004, the last non-gubernatorial election cycle.

While Guam is a U.S. territory, its residents cannot vote in the U.S. presidential election.

The primary reason for the drop in registered voters is the decline in voting in the past two elections, the newspaper said. Guam law requires the voting rolls to be purged of registered voters who do not participate in two consecutive elections.

Yesterday was the last day to register for Guam’s primary election. There is still time to register for the general election in November.
