Virgin Blue Proposes Brisbane-Port Moresby Service

(The Australian)

Virgin Blue has asked the International Air Services Commission for approval to fly between Brisbane, Australia, and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea four times a week starting November 1, The Australian reports.

The airline proposes using Boeing 737-800 jetliners that would operate under its Pacific Blue brand.

Virgin Blue, in its application, said it would add a fifth weekly flight within a year.

According to the newspaper, the carrier has been expanding into Western Australia to take advantage of the natural resources boom.

There have been separate reports in Papua New Guinea newspapers in the past week that Virgin Blue was in talks with Airline PNG.
