42 Percent Turnout In Guam Primary Election

(Pacific Daily News)

Results from yesterday’s Guam primary election have Democrats hopeful they will strengthen their majority in the territorial Legislature, the Pacific Daily News reports.

The primary election narrowed the field for the General Election, which will be held in early November. The Democrats had a full slate of candidates, and only one of its legislative contenders won’t make it through the primary election cycle. Republicans put forward candidates for only 10 of the possible 12 legislative seats.

Turnout, as expected, was low. The Guam Election Commission reported a 42 percent turnout of registered voters.

Guam’s incumbent delegate to the U.S. Congress, Madeleine Z. Bordallo, easily trounced her Democratic primary opponent, Jonathan Blaz Diaz.
