Air France Cuts Fuel Surcharge On Tahiti Flights

For the second month in a row Air France has announced a lowering of its fuel surcharge on four weekly Papeete-Los Angeles flights and connecting flights to Paris to take into account the decrease in global oil prices.
The latest decrease -- €15, or about US$20—took effect with Papeete-Los Angeles tickets issued as from Oct. 7, which also was the date Air France celebrated its 75th anniversary.
Air France announced on Sept. 4 a €10, or about US$13, drop in its fuel surcharge on the L.A.-Papeete flights, creating a new surcharge of €85, or about US$114. It also lowered by €14, or about US$19, the surcharge for Papeete-Los Angeles-Paris tickets.
An Air France media communiqué from Paris on Oct. 7 announced a €100, or about US$134, surcharge per long-haul sector with flights less than nine hours in length, which would apply to the 7.5-hour Los Angeles-Papeete flights. It also announced a €110, about US$147, surcharge per long-haul sector with flights more than nine hours, which would include the 11.5-hour Paris-Los Angeles flights.
Air France is the only one of the six international airlines serving Tahiti to announce a new cut in the fuel surcharge. The only other carrier to announce a lowering of its fuel surcharge recently was Air Tahiti Nui.
On Sept. 10, Tahiti's carrier announced a €14, or US$19, reduction for its Paris-Papeete flights, creating a new surcharge of €165, or about US$223. Air Tahiti Nui also reduced the surcharge for Los Angeles-Papeete flights by €16, or about $22, to €98, or about US$132.
However, Air Tahiti Nui left unchanged the fuel surcharge on its Auckland, Sydney and Tokyo flights to Tahiti.
The four other international carriers serving Tahiti—Air New Zealand, LAN Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Air Caledonia International—have not announced any fuel surcharge reductions recently for flights to and from Tahiti.
